April Portal Trend Snapshot

Here’s the latest buzz.

Aces high
All eyes were swinging towards the Masters Tournament this month, as the competition teed off and concluded between Apr 11–14. Anticipation was high, with interest in the event itself rising by 487%, while the location – the Augusta National Golf Club – soared by 598%.
The participants didn’t do too badly, either – with Jon Rham getting a hole in one on the chart (up 513%). Brooks Koepka got a Portal par with 309%, Phil Mickelson stepped onto the turf with a 275% rise, Tiger Woods hit a bogey at 147%, and, in last place on the chart (but in first place at the championship), Scottie Scheffler, who rose by a mere 158%.

Hopefully his trophy, prize money, and iconic winning green jacket will make him feel better about his Portal placement.

Slam dunks

Golf wasn’t the only sport in focus on the chart – basketball had its one shining moment of online chatter. The conversation mostly involved activity around the NCAA tournament. From coaches to players, we saw concepts appearing around both the men’s and women’s tourneys.

Zach Edey and Caitlin Clark were the most popular players to appear, while both coaches who won the tournament – Dan Hurley and Dawn Staley – also held strong. Women’s basketball saw unprecedented popularity.

The most recent post-tournament action involves coaches Dan Hurley (up 435%) – head coach of the National Champion University of Connecticut Huskies, and John Calipari (up 377%) – headed from University of Kentucky to University of Arkansas as the Razorback’s new head coach.

Basketball as an overall category hit a three-pointer – becoming the #3 most discussed topic.

Country’s climbing

Country music stars dominated the chart this month, thanks to the CMT awards – with ‘music’ as a number one category. Artists like Trisha Yearwood rose by 248%, Kelsea Ballerini was up by 348%, and chatter around Morgan Wallen soared by 571%.

Though there’s a chance that last one didn’t have too much to do with singing. Wallen hit the headlines after being arrested following an accusation the star threw a chair off a bar roof – which landed near two police officers. Thankfully no one was hurt, and there’s a possibility that Wallen was just trying to play a very unique version of musical chairs. Maybe?
