June Portal Trend Snapshot
Here’s the latest buzz.
Summer of soccer
United States Men’s National Team coach Gregg Berhalter had a pretty astonishing weekly growth of 1,625.53% from June 5, 2024 – June 11, 2024, after the U.S. lost 5-1 in a pre–Copa America friendly against Colombia, and Berhalter’s job immediately looked at risk.
Perhaps Berhalter will be able to distract himself by watching the opening matches of UEFA Euro 2024 – with the European soccer tournament having a monthly trend upwards of 203%, ahead of the competition’s launch.
Lopez leaves the stage
George Lopez also hit the headlines for an early exit – but this unfriendly farewell was the comedian’s choice, after a heckler interrupted his set.
As a result, Lopez lifted by 572.51% in the search rankings – thanks, in part, to a statement by the venue blaming the comedian for leaving 30 minutes before the end of his routine, instead of asking security to escort the heckler out.
The situation was complicated further by the fact most fans didn’t hear the heckler, and were left confused by the early end of the show. A mysterious situation, and one that’s inspired plenty of online chatter.
D-Day remembrance
On 6th June, the globe marked a significant D-Day anniversary, alongside veterans of the Normandy Campaign. It was the 80th anniversary of the event, which meant it might be the last time those veterans would likely be present – making it a particularly poignant moment, marked by major leaders coming together in France (up 36%) to pay tribute.
The Normandy landings experienced a monthly growth of 593%, with World War II up 34%, and Omaha Beach up 877%.
Basketball drama
Mavericks coach Jason Kidd living up to his team’s name by trying to get into his opponent’s heads this month – labeling Jaylen Brown the Celtics’ best player, with fans perceiving his casual comment as an attempt to disrupt an opposing team ahead of a big game. The conversation around his comments led to a monthly growth of 225%.
Meanwhile, WNBA player Angel Reese received some on-court coaching from an opposing player – with footage of the apparent advice from current Atlanta Dream player Tina Charles to Reese going viral. Reese rose by monthly 54% as a result.
