February Inuvo Employee Spotlight: Jonathan Bobbitt

For the month of February, Inuvo is spotlighting Jonathan Bobbitt, Assistant Controller in our Finance department. Jonathan is almost always the first person you will find in the office in the morning and most likely one of the last ones to leave. A hard worker, he keeps Inuvo at the top of its game.
Since this interview, Jonathan and his wife Renee have welcomed their new daughter into their lives. Congratulations to the new parents!
Please take a moment to read more about Jonathan in the Q&A below.
Inuvo: Hello Jonathan, please tell us a bit about yourself:
I was born and raised in Merritt Island, FL. and spent my adolescence fishing and surfing. I moved to Tampa from Atlanta in 2006, and got married here in 2008 to my lovely wife, Renee. We are now expecting a daughter in a few short weeks.
Inuvo: What is your professional background?
I did my undergrad and my masters in Accounting at University of Central Florida. I spent a little time at a regional CPA firm in Melbourne, FL where I worked in both the tax and audit fields. Next, I worked at a large radio company in Atlanta with a position in the finance department for about three and half years. I was responsible for preparing the financial statements, SEC filings, and the budgeting.
Inuvo: Any exciting projects you are working on?
We are currently streamlining the billing process for our Direct business segment, which includes BabytoBee. Oh wait...you said exciting…
Inuvo: What are your goals for February?
To get our auditors all the information they need to make an opinion on our financial statements, preferably before my wife goes into labor!
Inuvo: What are your goals for yourself and Inuvo?
I am finishing up the final part of the CPA exam in February. It will be nice to have that behind me. We are striving to expedite our close process, to deliver reporting to management in a timelier manner. There have been significant improvements over the past twelve months, but there is still some more room for improvement by automating some processes and building some reporting from our systems into our accounting software.
Inuvo: What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
I enjoy the little projects that pop up, financial statement analysis, and designing the reports that drive our financial statements.
Inuvo: When you are not at work, what would we be most likely to find you doing?
I spend entirely too much time at the Enterprise dog park with my wife and my dog, Bowden---my wife is the Florida State fan.
January Employee Spotlight: Jessica Lee!

For the month of January, Inuvo is spotlighting jessica [dot] lee [at] inuvo [dot] com (Jessica Lee). Jessica is better known around the office as “JLee”. JLee is a University of Florida graduate and a huge sports fan. Everyone around the office enjoys JLee’s outgoing personality and creative mind. Take a moment to read more about her in the Q&A below.
Inuvo: Hello JLee, please tell us a bit about yourself:
I’m a born and raised Florida girl. I have lived here my entire life and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. I love the heat, humidity, beaches and being able wear to flip flops all year long. Growing up, I was always singing, acting or putting on a show. My life was “Glee” before the show was even created! Also, I’m a huge sports fan, and probably a little too passionate about the Gators, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tampa Bay Rays. I’m also slightly obsessed (others would say totally obsessed) with my handsome Chow/Retriever -- Lundy.
Inuvo: What is your professional background?
I graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Marketing. After graduation, I worked at a mortgage company as a Marketing Communications Specialist. I was able to use my creative skills and learn a lot about the mortgage business. I joined Inuvo three and a half years ago as an Assistant Program Manager. Currently, I'm an Account Manager for some of Inuvo's biggest clients, as well as working on our new product, BargainMatch.
Inuvo: Any exciting projects you are working on?
Yes! I’m very excited to get to work on our new BargainMatch product. It’s really great to see our company’s great ideas come to fruition.
Inuvo: What are your goals for January?
My goals for January are to learn more about the ins and outs of BargainMatch. I want to make sure I understand everything about the product so I can better support our partners and advertisers.
Inuvo: What are your goals for yourself and Inuvo?
My goals include growing in my new role with BargainMatch and help the new product grow into a major part of our overall business.
Inuvo: What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
I love being involved with so many different products and helping determine how they are serviced. I also really enjoy working with clients on optimizing their programs for the better, helping them generate more revenue and increase profitability.
Inuvo: When you are not at work, what would we be most likely to find you doing?
In my free time, I love taking Lundy to the beach, CrossFitting, going to country concerts, spending time with my boyfriend, family and friends, and watching/reading anything about the Gators/Bucs. Did I mention I was a big sports fan?
December 2010 Employee Spotlight: Jason Carter!

For the month of November, Inuvo is spotlighting jason [dot] carter [at] inuvo [dot] com (Jason Carter.) Jason is a Purdue graduate who has been part of the Inuvo team for a year. Jason has a vast technological background. Take a moment to read more about him in the Q&A below!
Inuvo: Hello Jason, please tell us a bit about yourself:
Have you ever heard of the song “Small Town” from John Mellencamp? Well, I am from the VERY place he sings about, Seymour, IN. It’s definitely a small town but it was a great place to grow up in, even if corn husking was substituted for throwing a baseball. I moved to Tampa after I graduated from college because I could not take the thirty-plus days at a time with no sunshine during the winter months. I moved here knowing no one and I realized after my first grocery trip that a can opener was a MUST in order to have some chicken noodle soup for dinner. I have lived here for 13 years this January and I still love seeing the ocean every day.
Inuvo: What is your professional background?
I graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Computer Technology. My title at Inuvo is Data Architect. I have several years of experience with working as a database administrator/developer over the past 10 years and that is my passion. I have worked several positions from desktop support, wiring network closets, creating web pages, to building PCs from scratch. I have had a passion for technology since a very young age, and yes I do think playing video games, although it drove my parents crazy, had a huge impact on me taking this path.
Inuvo: Any exciting projects you are working on?
Currently, I am working on Babytobee.com. Back in May, the entire project was pulled from overseas and was brought in-house with little to no documentation or support. It has been a rough four or five months but we pulled off the impossible with a little old fashion elbow grease. Over that time, we automated numerous reports and extracts, performance tuned code, and built new tools and monitors. It’s truly a never ending process but seeing the impact it has had on the business is very rewarding and there are many new additions to come.
Inuvo: What are your goals for December?
My main goals right now are to continue growing Babytobee.com. There have been several changes with the new web site and bringing on Contact Centers of America. We are continually working at improving the way we do business. We want to decrease the amount of time offers are built, improve the processes for creating the offers and continue to evaluate our lead quality. We also want to provide the business the opportunity to evaluate data and create reports in a timely fashion to make better business decisions and drive higher revenue.
Inuvo: What are your goals for yourself and Inuvo?
I want to continue to work on projects that will define what and who Inuvo is. I will be the first one to admit that I love new technology and I’m willing to dive into shallow water to get my hands on it. But ultimately my efforts must benefit and drive the company to higher grounds. This Industry is based upon hard work and dedication. Technology is a huge factor in remaining top in the industry and if you cannot keep up with its evolution then you are going to get left behind. The key is balancing the “latest and greatest” in true innovations and cost savings to the business that will have the biggest impact. I truly believe BargainMatch and DealEx are two great technologies and I hope to be engaged in future endeavors.
Inuvo: What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
In general, I LOVE working at Inuvo. It is a small company that packs a lot of punch. I came from a company that you truly were a number. For the first time in a long time I feel a part of something and a have a “family-like” feeling with the people I work with. There are several people I am not fortunate enough to interact with on a daily basis but there is still a family-based attitude here that is extremely hard to find anywhere else. The IT department I am a part of is extremely talented. It is awesome to be surrounded by people who know how to get the job done and at the same time be able to increase your own skills and knowledge.
Inuvo: When you are not at work, what would we be most likely to find you doing?
I love to workout. It is something I have been doing for years and it just makes you feel great. No matter how bad my day can be, a solid workout will always clear my mind and help refresh my personal and professional life. I also listen and play music which is another great outlet. All of these activities are great but lately my favorite fun activities are those I share with my girlfriend Sherry. We enjoy a relaxing hot air balloon ride every now and then, walking on the beach and traveling to Europe.
November 2010 Inuvo Employee Spotlight: John Vehlewald!

For the month of November, Inuvo is spotlighting john [dot] vehlewald [at] inuvo [dot] com (John Vehlewald). John is a Michigan State graduate who has been part of the Inuvo team for 6 years. John has held various roles at Inuvo and now proudly holds the title “VP of Affiliate Products”. Take a moment to read more about him in the Q&A below!
Inuvo: Hello John, please tell us a bit about yourself:
John: Well, I have moved around every couple years since as far back as I can remember. As a result, I’ve lived in 5 different states, for a total of maybe 12+ different places within those states (I’ve honestly lost count)! Of all the places I have lived, I spent the most time in Michigan and I’ve always considered it “home”. I went to Michigan State University, and I’m a huge Spartan Football and Basketball fan. I adopted a dog named Izzy a year or so ago, so her antics keep things interesting at home!
Inuvo: What is your professional background?
John: After graduating from MSU, I did inside sales for CDW in Illinois for about a year. I then made the decision to move back to Michigan to be closer to family and friends. I then was hired at Kowabunga! as our first account manager. As Kowabunga! evolved, I began splitting my time between sales and account management, eventually moving over to a role as the Director of Sales. Since moving to Florida, I have gotten involved in other facets of our business as well, which brings me to my current role!
Inuvo: Any exciting projects you are working on?
John: Currently I have been spending a lot of my time on our new DealEx product, which has been extremely exciting. DealEx allows a merchant to create a “Groupon-like” deal and distribute it across a huge range of sites over longer periods of time than they would be able to do with Groupon. We’ve also found ways to protect these merchants from some of the issues many have had with Groupon, and I think it’s going to be a huge revenue generator for Inuvo in 2010-2011 (and beyond)!
Inuvo: What are your goals for November?
John: I’m working on bringing in more merchants to take advantage of DealEx this year, as well as setting up deals to get going in 2011!
Inuvo: What are your goals for yourself and Inuvo?
John: My goals are to do everything I can to help grow Inuvo into the billion dollar company I think it can be. I’d like to continue being a part of the team responsible for such great products as the Inuvo Platform, Bargainmatch, and DealEx. I cannot wait to see what we come up with next!
Inuvo: What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
John: I like having exposure to many different areas of our business and seeing how they all fit together. Working for Inuvo always gives me many opportunities to brainstorm and think of new businesses we can create or build upon what others have succeeded with.
Inuvo: When you are not at work, what would we be most likely to find you doing?
John: Generally watching football/basketball, movies, or playing videogames. I tend to be a bit of a geek in my free time (that could be the understatement of the year) so acquiring new gadgets and games are always on my to-do list!
October 2010 Inuvo Employee Spotlight: Kim Kitley!

For the month of October, Inuvo is spotlighting Senior Database Administrator, Kimberly Kitley. Kim is a proud Florida native who has been a part of the Inuvo team for almost two years now. As a part of our technology team, Kim gets to leave her mark on many of our products. Take a moment to read more about her in the Q&A below!

I am happily married to my husband of 21 years and I have two children, a 20 year old daughter and a 17 year old son.
Inuvo: What is your professional background?
Kim: I joined Inuvo almost 2 years ago as a Database Administrator. Prior to that, I lived in Colorado and worked for the USDA as a Senior DBA in the National Resource Conservation Services Dept and the City of Longmont. I have worked in the IT field for almost 20 years, starting my career at the Manatee County School Board, supporting their Transportation Department.
Inuvo: Any exciting projects you are working on?
Kim: I am currently working on consolidating databases to a more robust server and cleaning up the databases that we no longer have. This is assisting us in better supporting these databases. I also work very closely with the Inuvo Platform; supporting the databases and deployments.
Inuvo: What are your goals for October?
Kim: I would like to work more closely with the Operations Team, now that I am part of that team, and work on enhancing our Monitoring System to better serve all Inuvo databases and servers.
Inuvo: What are your goals for yourself and Inuvo?
Kim: I have really enjoyed working here at Inuvo; this is a great team to work with. I look forward to building the technology and business for Inuvo, so more people are aware of what we are about and what we have to offer them.
Inuvo: What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
Kim: I love working with the Technology Team as a whole. They are a great team to work with and are very creative and passionate about what they do.
Inuvo: When you are not at work, what would we be most likely to find you doing?
Kim: I enjoy spending time with my family. My kids are growing up so fast that I try to spend as much time with them as possible. My son graduates from high school this year, so this will be a very busy and rewarding year for me. I also love to travel, we try to visit new places all the time and enjoy cruising in Caribbean.

Inuvo: Any exciting projects you are working on?
Stacey: Oh yes! I have a long to-do list full of both external and internal projects keeping me busy and on my toes. Right now I’m most excited about the charitable and fun events we have planned for Inuvo to get involved with. Also, we are just now wrapping up the graphics for our latest and greatest eBook.

I enjoy taking my son to the zoo, local beaches, Disney World and other fun places. Join us in welcoming david [dot] troop [at] inuvo [dot] com (David) to the team and read more about him in his spotlight, found below.
Inuvo: Hello David, please tell us a bit about yourself:
David: I’ve recently relocated to Tampa from Raleigh, NC. I lived in Raleigh for 20 years and really enjoyed the area but am finding Tampa to be a great place to live as well. In 2006 I graduated from NC State with a Business Management degree (focus on marketing). I’m a loyal NC State fan and am looking forward to football and basketball season. My favorite sport is soccer and I try to play as much as possible. I’m also an Eagle Scout, Starbuck's fan and pretty good Sudoku player.
Inuvo: What is your professional background?
David: I’ve always enjoyed sales and worked as a sales person for Circuit City and Oakley through college. After graduating from college I started working for an affiliate marketing company based out of Cary, NC called LinkConnector. My role as an Affiliate Manager at LinkConnector involved recruiting, maintaining and growing affiliate accounts. I really enjoy the online advertising industry and look forward to it growing immensely in the future.
Inuvo: Any exciting projects you are working on?
David: I’m actively recruiting publishers to promote offers with Inuvo as well as monitoring current affiliates and I’m always closely monitoring traffic quality and performance. I enjoy working with the affiliate and analytics teams to pre-determine fraudulent affiliates so we can ensure the highest possible quality for our advertisers.
Inuvo: What are your goals for July?
David: My goals are to launch 10 big publishers with Inuvo and have them running multiple offers. I also plan on continuing to administer the strictest standards for approving publisher applications, so the Inuvo Platform can continue generating a higher quality of traffic for the advertisers.
Inuvo: What are your goals for yourself and Inuvo?
David: My goals for myself and Inuvo are to be an extremely profitable multi-channel marketing company for our affiliates and shareholders.
Inuvo: What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

Inuvo: When you are not at work, what would we be most likely to find you doing?
David: Running with my dog, Dutch, or playing soccer.
It's your turn! Do you have any questions you'd like to ask David?
Inuvo's June 2010 Employee Spotlight: Stephanie Bernier

As we usher in the Summer months, we have a new Employee Spotlight to share with you. For the month of June 2010, Stephanie Bernier is in the Inuvo spotlight! For over five years Stephanie has worked as our Senior Affiliate Manager. Many of our publishers have come to know her well during this time. Additionally, Stephanie contributes to the Publisher Corner series on the Inuvo Blog. Please, take a moment to check out the Q&A below and introduce yourself at Stephanie [dot] Bernier [at] inuvo [dot] com.
Inuvo: Hello Stephanie, please tell us a bit about yourself:
Stephanie: I have lived in Florida for almost 12 years. I am married and have a 9 year old daughter, Emily. I was born in Wisconsin and have lived in Pennsylvania and Georgia; however I was raised primarily on Cape Cod. Growing up, I spent summers at the beach on the Cape, so I’m glad to be able to offer that to my daughter here in Florida as well! I love outdoor sports such as swimming, running, walking, biking and hitting the beach. The West Coast of Florida has so much to offer, we are always trying to cover all there is to do!
Inuvo: What is your professional background?
Stephanie: After graduating college in Rhode Island with a degree in Communications, I moved to the Washington D.C. area and began working for the U.S. Federal Food and Drug Administration in the Press Office. I was a Public Affairs Specialist for 9 years. My husband and I moved to Florida in 1998 due to his job relocation and I began working for an Affiliate Network that specialized in marketing financial products. I was an Affiliate Manager there for 7 years until I began employment with Inuvo. It has been truly exciting to see the literal explosion and growth of this industry over this time period!
Inuvo: Any exciting projects you are working on?
Stephanie: My project is a daily, ongoing process of reaching out to as many publishers as possible, learning their needs, what is working for them and what may not be working so well. Ongoing communication with publishers is key. I am continually prospecting for new publishers to get on board with Inuvo as well.
I am also working on gaining insight from publishers on what types of host and post offers they are interested in. Inuvo is currently working on getting our host and post feature up and running. This is very exciting as we have many publishers who are interested in diving right into these offers once they are available.
Inuvo: What are your goals for June?
Stephanie: We have a wide variety of exclusives and many niche offers which can be “hidden gems” for our publishers. My goals are to have more distribution on these offers and to set publishers up with the specialized offers we have for their niche.
Since Inuvo gives publishers a direct link to advertisers (leaving out the middlemen), we offer top payouts and have the best conversions possible. For example, publishers running ringtone offers should run Flycell offers on the Inuvo Platform, as we connect them directly with Flycell. We’ve integrated the Inuvo Platform’s tracking functionality directly with Flycell’s lead collection system to ensure we track every single transaction in real-time.
Inuvo: What are your goals for yourself and Inuvo?
Stephanie: I want Inuvo to be the “go-to” network for publishers and advertisers for all of their marketing needs. I thrive on feedback from my publishers which helps me get them exactly what they are after. If we don’t have a particular offer, we have an aggressive Sales Team which can get any specific campaign quickly.
Inuvo: What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
Stephanie: I love watching new publishers grow with us. I enjoy helping them find offers that match their traffic well and see them take off. I enjoy helping them build upon their success and grow their revenue to new heights. I like to help people, and that’s what being an Affiliate Manager is all about!
Inuvo: When you are not at work, what would we be most likely to find you doing?
Stephanie: I enjoy spending time with my family at our local pool, beaches and parks. We keep busy with my daughter’s extracurricular activities such as competitive dance, so we travel frequently for competitions and performances. It gets us out to visit new areas and attend special events, so it’s fun for all of us. I am also involved with my daughter’s school, our local community and our Church.
Inuvo's May 2010 Employee Spotlight: Trey Barrett
Here at Inuvo we are welcoming the month of May. To kick off the month, we have our May 2010 Employee to share with you. This month we are putting the spotlight on our VP of Strategy and Corporate Development, Trey Barrett. Trey recently joined Inuvo three months ago and we are all happy to have him on our team! Take a moment to drop him a line at Trey [dot] Barrett [at] inuvo [dot] com and welcome him aboard.
Inuvo: Hello Trey, please tell us a bit about yourself:
Trey: I live in Scott, Arkansas with my wife Shana and children, Olivia (6 years old) and Will (2 years old). I was born in Cocoa Beach, Florida to parents that worked for the Apollo Space program, so I guess you could say I’m a Florida native. The Barrett’s are water bugs and like sand between their toes as often as possible. We live on a lake in Scott, so to help satisfy our urge for sand we built a beach. We call it Soft Shell Beach because in the spring Soft Shell turtles nest in the loose sand.
Inuvo: What is your professional background?
Trey: I was very fortunate to have had parents who were involved in the development and growth of Acxiom. As a result, I was exposed to and worked with many companies that used or delivered services into the Direct Marketing Industry--Data Processing, Catalog Mailers, List Management/Brokerage, Mail Processing and Response or Campaign Analytics. In early 2000, I sold a marketing services company I had founded with a friend and settled in Scott to start a family. In 2006, I joined Acxiom to lead developmental efforts to bring Acxiom products and services into the interactive marketing arena.
Inuvo: Any exciting projects you are working on?
Trey: Several, but I think most importantly it is the work to develop a Strategic Roadmap that will guide Inuvo and help us determine which products and services we will need to provide our clients to differentiate Inuvo. The interactive marketing industry is a rapidly changing place, but the goals of marketers and media providers are the same as twenty years ago…Positive ROI! Our goal is find the right features to help our clients reach their goals.
Inuvo: What are your goals for May?
Trey: To have established a clear strategic vision to guide product development. To have implemented at least 2 projects delivering revenue growth for Inuvo.
Inuvo: What are your goals for yourself and Inuvo?
Trey: I’m still relatively new at Inuvo, so my first goal is to learn about our business, clients and the industry we serve. Once I have a good understanding of the industry and issues facing us then we can set some long term goals.
Inuvo: What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?
Trey: It’s very exciting to have all the Inuvo assets in my sandbox. There’s a great opportunity to bring together multiple pieces of the Inuvo family to have a positive impact on the whole company.
Inuvo: When you are not at work, what would we be most likely to find you doing?
Trey: Babysitting. I love spending time with my little ones!
